How to Select the right size flat sheet
In order to purchase the perfect sheet for your bed, it is important to know the depth of your mattress. This number varies widely (from 7" to 25".) Take a ruler and measure from the top of the mattress to the bottom. Do not include your box springs.

If you are trying to find a flat sheet that is wide enough to tuck in on both sides, you will need to do a bit of math.

For example:
You find a queen flat sheet that you love and it measures 90x102".

This means that the width of the sheet is 102" and looking at the chart above, you see that the width of a queen size mattress is 80".

Take the width of the SHEET: 102"
Subtract the width of the MATTRESS: 80"

102-80 = 22

Take the result and divide it by 2.
22 / 2 = 11

The result gives you the drop. The drop is the amount of sheet that will hang over the mattress on each side.

In our example above, the mattress will have 11" of sheet extending over the edges.

If your mattress is 17" deep, you will not be able to tuck the sheet in on both sides. (17 - 11 = 6 ... so 6" on each side will not be covered.)

If you have a deep mattress, you will need to shop for Extra Deep bedding pieces. Charter Club, Hotel Collection and Waterford are three brands that sell this type of bedding.
